Story
When I came to St Martins Church as Vicar almost 18 months ago I wanted us to grow and be at the heart of the community. Before lockdown we had started some new groups like our toddler group which was wonderful to see the children having fun. We have plans for a community garden space and other projects to help build our community as we open up again.
We often say life is a journey and I have always wanted to go on pilgrimage, there is one which is called the Camino which starts in France and finishes in Santago de Compostella in Spain a journey of 480 miles. Pilgrimages are a way of connecting with something deeper, I love walking in God’s creation and even though I can’t do the Camino in person I am going to walk it virtually during Lent this year, so I will be walking 480 miles in 46 days.
This is a very personal journey for me but I would love to be able to connect it with the journey we are taking at St Martins and if you are able to sponsor me any funds raised will go towards our ‘open the doors’ project which will support us in transforming our building into a welcoming space for all. We are going to need over £25,000 to carry out all the works we would like to and my walking challenge is just the first step in our fundraising efforts so any support you can give us at this stage would be much appreciated.
Thank you and God Bless x

4 years agoYesterday I reached the Cruz de Fierro (the iron cross). Pilgrims will often carry a stone with them on their journey representing their sins and at the iron cross they will drop their stone symbolising being released from their sins. Sometimes they will carry a personal object to leave. I know this pilgrimage is virtual but even reading that I had reached that point was very special. I thank God for his mercy and forgiveness and for giving me the strength to walk his path. I also thank all those who support me along the way. God Bless x
