Story
Oasis Hadley is one of 52 Academies as part of the Oasis Community Learning Multi Academy Trust based in Enfield, London. We are working with Oasis Uganda Charitable Trust to raise funds to support Children in Uganda through various projects.
The Team Completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks:
Danish Hussain, Mehmet Albay, Yesim Albay, Lucy Barnes, Afsah Oomar, Amritpal Singh, Archie Coram, Asad Ahmad, Aurora Wright, Ciaron Robertson, Emily Bancroft, Lorena De La Fuente, Hannah Pugh.
Why we are doing this:
Primary education is compulsory in Uganda, but after the age of 12 almost three million children are taken out of school each year – severely limiting their life chances. Our fundraising will help support educational community projects in Uganda including Child Rights, Football for Life and the Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA).
Where the funds will go:
Child Rights Project - A community outreach project which educates children on their core and fundamental rights such as a right to food, shelter, education and play. These children are then trained as ambassadors, who continue the legacy of the Project, and can report early signs of any violation of these rights to ensure appropriate intervention.
Football for Life - A grass-roots volunteer-led football programme which brings together young boys from the local community who are at risk of anti-social behaviour and alcoholism, using football as a channel for functional social interactions. Coaches include those who have benefited directly from the programme themselves as children, and the teams have successfully taken part in many local and national tournaments.
VSLA - A village initiative which enables local women to access funds to support their children's education. Rather than relying on bank loans with high interest rates, women are trained in financial knowledge and competency, enabling a reciprocal banking system where they can bid for small amounts of cash from a shared pot to make direct, tangible improvements in their local area and increase their monetary independence.
Oasis Academy Hadley staff will be completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, and all funds raised will go directly to the above three Oasis Uganda projects.
Thank you so much in advance for your contribution to a cause that is of great importance to us and will help make a real difference to the lives of teachers and students in Uganda.
