I've raised £1000 to Support Medcan Family Foundations to help treat patients facing untreatable conditions in their fight to access ground-breaking treatments

I will be attempting to perform 3000 push-ups over the month of November to raise money for Medcan Family Foundations. My ambitions is to do 100 push-ups per day for 30 days.
Medicinal Cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018, yet less than 10 prescriptions have been written for CBMPs (Cannabis Based Medicinal Products) on the NHS (The Guardian, March 2023). Currently only specialist doctors who are on a Specialist Register with the GMC (General Medical Council) can prescribe this medication, and is typically only accessible through private medical clinics, which can cost families a lot of money, especially those who have had to take steps away from employment, to care for their loved ones.
There are thousands, if not millions, of people in the UK suffering with severe medical conditions that would highly benefit from the use of Medicinal Cannabis. A subsection of these people are children suffering from severe epilepsy, taking multiple seizures a day, and cannabis could be a life altering medicine that could save these children’s lives.
Looking at one of the founders of Medcan, Hannah Deacon, her own son was suffering from 100's of seizures per day, and after getting access to this amazing medicine, her son is now over 3 years seizure free! Living an amazing life with his family. Hannah's fight for her child, is actually what pushed for the legalisation of this plant, yet children are the ones that are still struggling to get access almost 5 years after the law change.
This is why this medicine needs to be more accessible and this is exactly what Medcan Family Foundations is all about. They help other families get access to this amazing medication, and support them and their children through some of the toughest times they face.
Here is some more information about Medcan Family Foundations, who they are and what they do to help:
Patients who depend on cannabis-based medicine should be able to get the essential treatment and care they require, without delay, and on the NHS. Campaigning for this is at the heart of what we do.
The struggle to pay for medicine needed to keep their child well leaves many families unable to cover basic living costs. Medcan sets aside a share of all money raised to provide hardship grants and high-street vouchers.
No judgement. Without access, families are resorting to poorly regulated OTC or illicit products. It is vital these families are able to talk to doctors. If you are in this situation, for confidential support and advice contact Medcan.
High-quality care requires high quality data. But the complexity of the situation and lack of investment makes that hard. Medcan are at the forefront of gathering in-depth, robust data on cannabis-derived medications.
- 30 Thousand children suffering daily who could benefit
- 21 Epilepsy related deaths every week in the UK
- 65% of epilepsy cases there is no known cause for
- 21 Pounds spent per patient on epilepsy research
The number of families who seek out our support and advice is growing every year. Help us give greater voice to children unable to access the lifesaving medications they need. In supporting us you are supporting them.
