Story
As part of MC Plan and Site Services continued charitable support, Mark and Helen embarked on a Trek to Nepal in October 2018, with project work at a local school affected by the Earthquake in 2015. The trek along Langtang highlighted just what had been lost, and how the Nepalese people had got back up and started trying to rebuild their lives by the loss they had suffered.
Painting at the school project touched our hearts even more, simply because although they had suffered an Earthquake and had the minimalist of things in the way of learning, these children never stopped smiling. This was also felt by many guests at our recent company event when Mark spoke so passionately about the project.
This experience for both Mark and Helen encouraged them to look at what else they could do to promote continued learning in an environment the children enjoyed.
Following consultation with the project organisers in Nepal, we are now going back out to Nuwakot in Nepal to continue the rebuild at the school. On 17th November, our team of 10, all with varying trades and skills, giving up their work time over a 12-day period to be involved in making the school a much better learning environment for these children.
Our work will involve the building of a toilet block, painting, installing electricity to both school buildings and classrooms, creating a healthy learning environment in each classroom, with desks and computers. We are also proposing to construct an outdoor play area and pathways for the children to enjoy outdoor play, having lost all of this, following the decimating earthquake. This area will include posts for football and rugby, where the community can again begin to foster relationships that may have been lost during the earthquake.
A detailed schedule of works has been put together and the team of volunteers are:
Mark, Helen and Ben Oxland from MC Plan and Site Services
Alexandra Eaton - AE Marketing Solutions
Chris Cowley - Chris Cowley Interior/Exterior Decorating
Kenny Tucknott - Sunseeker, Poole
Penny King - Planning Precision Bournemouth
Adam Ayling - Griffiths and May Carpets and Flooring
Tim Collier - Lilliput Electrical Ltd
Michael Fraser - Plasterer and General Builder
We are passionate about helping these poor people with so little in their lives. When we look at how lucky we are with running water and toilets - which everyone takes for granted - it highlights the plight of these families with little more than a hole in the ground, following the decimating earthquake that ripped their world apart.
Please give generously to help our team, help them.
THANK YOU!!!!!

5 years agoDay 11 – Wednesday 27th November – Handover Day We bid goodbye to the cockerel that had woken us regularly throughout each night. They say a picture tells a thousand words and this is so right! To see the joy and smiles on the children’s faces was the best feeling ever. We were treated to a true Nepalese ceremony from the community to express their gratitude to us. For each and every one of us this is most definitely an experience that will stay in our hearts forever. Now looking forward to the bumpy journey back towards Kathmandu.
