Dear Community

Your support has made a huge difference for Aidan and us as a family. The solidarity that you all have shown has been a real ray of sunshine at this time. As you can see in the fundraiser we have exceeded the initial target and we are extremely grateful and humble by everyone's generosity. Offers for tools, materials and workshops space have been invaluable to Aidan in building back his business. It has been a beautiful reminder not to underestimate the power that lies within communities when we look after each other. Thank you

Aidan is in the process of setting up a studio and you can follow him here.

Aidan has been based in Cathedral building for over 30 years as a bow-maker and violin restorer until a terrible fire engulfed the building and everything was destroyed. His workshop held a collection of antique violins that were ready to be sold, specialist tools and materials for making violin bows. Some of the wood he stocked for making the bows has since been made a protected species and is no longer available to buy. Aidan is well known in the music scene being a fiddle player of not only traditional Irish music but he is also well known in the Flamenco Community.Aidan has been self employed all his adult life working from Cathedral Buildings, making music, encouraging musicians and bringing new life to violins. He is well respected for his craftmanship including his violin restoration work and as a bowmaker. In this studio space Aidan has also been teaching violin and he has been an active member of the School of Music. All his specialist equipment, violin parts , ready to sell violins that he had restored in his studio has been sadly detroyed in this fire, no shop, no tools and no studio space. His bow-making skills are well known throughout the violin community, as a heritage endangered craftsmanship skill he has been keeping this alive in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter for more than three decades. This fundraiser will help Aidan to purchase the specialist tools and get his workshop back into action. Sadly it won't be in Cathedral Buildings for a while but being self employed he can't afford to be without his workshop for long.
