Story

Every year, the Mayor of Evesham chooses a set of charities to raise funds for over the course of their term of office. Unfortunately, this year, the charity fund has been badly hit by circumstances beyond our control. Firstly, the annual firework display had to be cancelled because of bad weather, which cost us our single biggest source of income to the appeal. And then, in the run up to the end of this year's civic year, the Covid-19 lockdown has meant that all other events have had to be cancelled.

This online appeal is an attempt to make up for that. As part of the 2.6 challenge, we're going to be doing a marathon in our street. All of us - Mark, Emma, Ellie and Abigail - will take part in a family relay around our street. Baby Nathaniel might come along for a few laps, too.

A full lap of the street, starting at our house, walking all the way to one end, then to the other end and back to our house, is around half a mile. A marathon is just over 26 miles. So, between us, we're going to do 52 laps of the street, which is near enough a marathon!

We've set an initial target of £4,000 for this online appeal as that's the amount we would normally have expected to raise from the firework display. Anything above and beyond that will help compensate for the other events we've had to cancel this spring. But even if we don't reach that, it will still help to support local organisations that really need our help.

The three causes that benefit from the Mayor's Fund this year are:

Caring Hands in the Vale

Evesham Shopmobility

Evesham Girlguiding

Please follow our progress on the Mayor of Evesham's Facebook Page

(Note: The reason this is a standalone Justgiving page, rather than being linked to the main 2.6 challenge website, is that the Mayor's charity appeal is not itself a charity and therefore can't register with 2.6C. But all funds raised will go directly into the Mayor's charity appeal bank account, not to us personally).
