Story

Max is a pupil at Sheffield’s Talbot Specialist School which caters for students with special educational and physical disabilities from Year 7 through to Year 14. Talbot is an inclusive school who offer their students as many opportunities as possible to be off site participating in a wide range of activities.

The school has a minibus that is used every day of the week, unfortunately like anything, the minibus is old and starting to deteriorate. It isn’t financially viable for the school to maintain the bus anymore and will soon be declared “off the road”.

The school are trying to raise £16,000 towards the cost of a new minibus, just over half of this has been raised so far. Money raised will enable the school to buy a larger, reliable bus to carry a full class of students to travel together on various outings. The minibus will come with a full tail lift allowing any wheelchair users to travel together with their friends on school outings allowing for a fully inclusive educational visit, promoting social skills and communication across the school.

Talbot school currently have a huge number of visits going out of school, some of these include weekly shopping trips to local supermarkets, Duke of Edinburgh camping trips in Derbyshire, walking groups in the Peak District, volunteering at local charity shops and more.

The school would not be able to do any of this without a minibus.

About Max

I am 13 years old and have right side Hemiplegia, this means the right side of my body is affected by Cerebral Palsy, I also have Addisons disease which means that I have to take steroids every day to help me to do all the things I enjoy.

I really want to help my school raise the funds so that we can carry on enjoying our out of school trips and this walk will be a very big challenge for me. 150 sounds like a lot of miles but I will be doing it over the month of July so, it works out at just over 4.8 miles every day for 31 days. I am determined to complete this challenge.

Please sponsor me, it doesn’t matter how much, every single penny will be appreciated.
