Story
The biggest event on Mawnan Bowling Club’s calendar is coming up: the 12-hour Bowlathon to fund-raise for St. Austell’s Little Harbour, Cornwall’s only children’s hospice.
The outdoor bowling marathon kick-starts the club’s Open Day on Saturday 13 May, when two team-mates plan to play constantly over 12-hours beginning at 8am and ending at 8pm on one of their immaculate rinks at Carwinion Road, Mawnan Smith.
Little Harbour is the only hospice where children with terminal illnesses and their parents living in Cornwall have a place of care, rest and respite on their doorstep. It’s a home-from-home, a place where each family member can find time and space to do the things they enjoy as a Mum, as a Dad, as a brother or sister: as a family, not as a carer.
Little Harbour is a place of love and laughter, where families can begin to forget their worries for a while. Providing care for more than 130 families in Cornwall at any one time, it cost around £3 million to run LIttle Harbour last year yet receives very little Government funding. £20 can fund an hour of care, £100 can provide a parent an uninterrupted night’s sleep at the hospice.
Mawnan Bowling Club would love for you to be involved in the Bowlathon by sponsoring an hour. Without Little Harbour, lots of families would really struggle to get through so thank you for your support and generosity.
