Story

Charlie originated from Birkenhead where for 36 years he was a Train Driver and Fitter for Mersey Rail.

In 2016 Charlie moved from his beloved Birkenhead due to deteriorating health and moved to a Residential Home in Shropshire to be nearer his family. The only stipulation was that he could bring his 52 inch TV and Budgie. Charlie's story was featured in the BBC 2 Documentary, 'A Vicar's Life' in February 2018.

Charlie had complex needs which included Dementia, being an Amputee, Diabetic and Blind. However, he remained cheerful, positive and always appreciative of the little things in life.

The care Charlie received from Lady Forester Broseley was exemplary and as his family we are indebted for the love, care and attention that he received over the past two years. Charlie was always very grateful but was known for his one liners as well as his expletives that raised a smile rather than caused offence.

Like at any Residential Home there is an alarm chord which alerts the carers that residents need assistance. However the Alarm System at the home was somewhat antiquated and needs upgrading. Charlie would often be heard saying, 'Those Bloody Buzzers!'

Sadly Charlie passed away on 19th February 2018 and In affectionate memory of him his family would like to raise the necessary funds to upgrade the Alarm Pendant System at the Home, so that it better meets the day and night requirements of residents, as well as staff responding to them.
