Story

Hello and welcome to our Just Giving page. We started this page on the 25th of February with the aim of raising enough money to transport medical supplies to an NGO working on the border of Ukraine and wow what a response we have had.

On Sunday 6th March a team of representatives from Bridge to Unity drove across Europe to deliver medical supplies, bought with your kind donations, to Zintegrowana Służba Ratownicza (ZSR), an NGO working around the clock to support those fleeing from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Not only that, on the 11th of March we were able to put a deposit down on an ambulance which will be delivered to ZSR. We are also in the process of ordering everything needed to kit this ambulance out to a very high standard, which will not only provide this wonderful team of individuals with the resources needed to treat people as they cross into Poland but will also enable them to support those on the ground in Ukraine as they prepare to cross into the conflict zone. None of this would have been possible without the support of all of you and we cannot thank you enough.

So where do we go next? On the 11th of March we gave our supporters the opportunity to decide what they would like us to do with the fundraiser now we have purchased the ambulance which was always our goal. The general consensus? To keep fundraising and continue our work to support those working on the frontline of this humanitarian crisis.

We have decided, with the guidance of our supporters to develop a formal partnership with ZSR and continue to work alongside them, delivering medical supplies and other essential items to allow them to continue the incredible work that they do.

We are also in conversation with other NGOs providing support during this on-going crisis, to discuss possible opportunities for partnership in other neighbouring countries. We will continue to provide updates.

A little more about ZSR:

ZSR is based in Poland and provides emergency medical care in crisis situations. They are currently working 24 hours a day at the Polish / Ukrainian border providing medical treatment to those arriving as they cross into Poland. Every day they are treating hundreds of people, mainly women and children, who are arriving suffering from severe dehydration and hypothermia from queuing for hours in sub-zero temperatures.

ZSR is made up of a voluntary team of paramedics, doctors and nurses and despite their incredible efforts they are working with limited resources which is restricting the care they can provide.

The strength and determination shown by this group of voluntary medics is awe-inspiring and we want to do all we can to help them, as despite their incredible efforts they continue to be restricted by limited resources.

Who are we?

Bridge to Unity is a community organisation set up 6 months ago in response to the Afghan Crisis to support refugees as they arrived in the UK. It is made up of four individuals (Matt, Alex, Mell and Becky) and is supported by a host of wonderful volunteers. Since its conception we have been working with local government to distribute essential items to those in need and help individuals and families in their resettlement. We do not limit ourselves on who we are able to help and instead we work together with the wider community to form longstanding relationships with those in need, including but not limited to; individuals and families being relocated to the UK as part of the ongoing refugee crisis, those affected by issues of homelessness and families and individuals struggling whether that be financially or otherwise. We do not limit ourselves on who we are able to help, instead we position ourselves within the community to offer support and assistance in anyway we can to anyone who needs it.
