Story

The GB waterpolo team are playing a World Aquatics World Cup match against Ukraine on 10th March in Bucharest, Romania. On behalf of the UK Waterpolo community we are raising funds to support families and children affected by the war. The money raised will go to:

- families who have had loved ones killed

- support the Ukrainian Federation in their continued efforts to relocate children from the warzone and provide them with accommodation and training opportunities

There are countless stories to recount but not enough space here to do them justice. Three former players who have been killed are:

Yevgeny Obedynskyi was a former captain of the national team who died in an aerial bombardment in March 2022, he had three children.

Oleg Holodnikov played professionally for Mariupol and was killed in an aerial bombardment aged 42.

Vitaliy Lisun died on the front line in the Sumy region. He was a state coach, referee and worked for many years as the secretary of the federation. As a player for Dynamo Kyiv he won the national championship.
