I've raised £18000 to Purchase a letter written by Mary Anning to William Buckland in 1829.

Money raised in this campaign was used by the Jurassic Coast Trust, in partnership with Lyme Regis Museum, to bid on a hand-written letter by pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning. This exceptional letter, sent to Rev. William Buckland in 1829 regarding a box of coprolite (fossil poo) and detailing a new Plesiosaur that Mary had discovered at Lyme Regis, is a unique piece of local heritage and palaeontological history. Sadly our bid was unsuccessful and the letter sold at Sotheby’s on 4th August for £100,800.
We are tremendously grateful to all those who donated. As the JCT cannot directly access donors' details due to Data Protection, we advise everyone who would like their donation to be reimbursed to contact JustGiving directly: help@justgiving.com
Should any of you who contributed to this campaign wish to continue to support the Jurassic Coast Trust and Lyme Regis Museum, we have projects to which the funds raised could make a significant and timely difference.
For example, the Jurassic Coast Collection project has a plan to identify and acquire scientifically important fossil specimens which demonstrate the outstanding universal value of the World Heritage Site, and we could use the funds raised to purchase fossils from collectors and display them in museums and visitor centres along the coast to tell the story of the 'Walk Through Time'.
For Lyme Regis Museum, the funds raised could be used to improve their online offer telling the story of Mary Anning and encouraging young people to take an interest in science, increasing access to her marvellous and inspirational story.
Please note, this campaign is led by Chris Reedman, the Jurassic Coast Trust's Development Officer for the Jurassic Coast Collection project. All funds raised by this campaign will initially be transferred to the JustGiving account of the Jurassic Coast Trust, Registered Charity #1101134, and not to Chris personally. Chris is in no way personally liable for these funds.
