Story

There's no question about it - walking is great! It's good for our physical health and amazing for mental health. It's a way to exercise, socialise and have new experiences that has low environmental impact. But not everyone feels confident about getting out there and not everyone has buddies to walk with.

That's why Marsden Walkers are Welcome publish easy-to-follow trail guides for circular walks around the area as well as leading regular group walks and helping to ensure that the footpaths are are maintained and accessible. On top of this, the small group of volunteers that run Marsden Walkers are Welcome also mount a Walking Festival to celebrate and encourage a love of the outdoors.

Of course, sometimes people can get into difficulties when they're out enjoying the moors; like any activity, there's always a chance of an accident, an injury or a health problem, so Marsden Walkers are Welcome are teaming up with Home Valley and Oldham Mountain Rescue teams to raise funds jointly for both voluntary organisations.

On Saturday 31st August, members of the groups will leave Hebden Bridge and walk the 18 miles back over the moors to Marsden. Both organisations are run by volunteers and rely on sponsorship and contributions to keep running. Your sponsorship will help us to keep people walking; confidently, enjoyably and safely. Thank you!
