Story
The Snowden Challenge was first proposed by Chris Staunton, who unfortunately cant attend (clever lad!) I will be joined on this trek into the unknown by veterans Mally Fleet (also a Friend of Eaton St Park and drummer with infamous Punk band Bad Bistro) Chris Daley (who managed a very successful team himself at Whiston Juniors for many years) Alan Pickup (whose son played for me at Whiston for 12 years) and Gary Chapman who just wants to challenge himself (well he is a bit weird).
This will be a gruelling, gruesome and at times possibly a damn right painful hike on England and Wales highest mountain, the notorious Snowden. Dangerous? You bet! We may be putting our lives on the line (or maybe not) It should take between 7 to 9 hours depending on the weather conditions and the state of our old knees and ankles. There will be tears, there will be tantrums (but only if alcohol is spilled) until we reach our limit, but the intrepid 5 are up for this challenge and we are looking for your help to achieve our goal! So if you want to see a gang of 50 somethings moaning in pain for weeks afterward you know where to pledge :)
Who are we doing this for? WHISTON JUNIORS FC
Whiston Juniors Football Club was founded in 1985 in the heart of Whiston. It has provided a safe environment for literally thousands of boys and girls to enjoy being coached and developing to play in our many teams from age 4 to 18. I have coached and managed a team at Whiston for 12 years taking my team to far away exotic locations in Paris and Amsterdam (as well as less exotic Middlesborough haha) before finally hanging up my whistle this season. I have also been Vice Chairman for many years and along with many others have generated funds to help the club survive. We have a big project now to improve the pitches at 'The Cricky'. Council funding has been cut and we have to find ways to generate further income. Every little helps!
FRIENDS OF EATON STREET PARK
I am also Chairman of Friends of Eaton Street Park, a green flag park next door to Prescot Cables in the heart of Prescot town centre. Mal is also a member here which gave him a debut for his band The Wildflowers. The Friends hold several events for the community throughout the year including a Mad Hatters Tea Party at Easter, The Picnic in the Park in Summer and a Christmas Grotto. We are open every Sunday serving refreshments at really low prices and welcome many regulars and newcomers each week. We have free bowling facilities and a book share. All profits are re-invested into the park for the benefit of the whole community.
Sadly Alan and Gary didn't make it to the top. Not everyone can be a hero ;) We left these medals in honour of those who couldn't make it.

7 years agoWell its getting closer and the training is getting harder. Mally tramped the Yorkshire Dales at the weekend and Chris acclimatised in Rome. I managed a 5 1/2 mile hike with the blisters to show for it. Thanks to all those who are donating privately.
