Annual Charity Fund Raiser - Maris Stella College OBA UK
Maris Stella College past pupil association UK has launched their annual charity fundraiser on 11th September 2022.
The Maris Stella College past pupil association in UK was set up in year 2000. The association’s primary aim is to promote social contacts among the members and work towards the welfare of the Maris Stella College in Negombo (Sri Lanka), simultaneously upholding Sri Lankan cultural and traditional values. The College is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and association members are keen to celebrate this milestone with its annual charity project dedicated to children.
Over the past years, the association has completed various charity projects in Sri Lanka. Currently, Sri Lanka is going through its worst economic crisis since independence in 1948. Due to the lack of foreign reserves, the government is compelled to restrict imports, including basic medicine and essential food commodities. This has resulted in a significant shortage of life-saving medicines across many hospitals in Sri Lanka.
This year, the association has partnered with Sri Lanka Medical & Dental Association UK (Charity Reg : 800821), to raise funds to procure basic medical supplies that are in shortage at Lady Ridgeway Hospital In Colombo.
Lady Ridgeway Hospital is the country's leading children's hospital set up way back in 1895. (https://lrh.health.gov.lk/home-en). Hospital operations heavily depend on government grants and private donors; in recent years, funding has become a major issue for its operations.
Association members of Clancy Peiris, Amal Weerasinghe, Alwyn Martinez, Ruwanal Perera and Sam Senanayake are taking up challenge of completing the London-Brighton Cycle ride on the 11th of September to raise funds for this charity project.
Your generous donations would help save innocent children's lives in Sri Lanka; many thanks in advance.
