We are looking for a Luton van or something similar with a tail lift, then we can move the entire contents that create a home for our families all in one go! We are having to rent a van every week and this is using the money that could go towards house hold good for families.
What we do is support individuals and families who have fled domestic violence and we keep things very simple, because it works!
When someone flees domestic violence, they often flee with nothing other than a small bag of personal belongings, the clothes on their back, their child/children, and they run.
They seek safety in a refuge, shelter or other temporary homeless accommodation, whilst they wait to be given the keys to their new property.
The professionals that work alongside the client or family will assess all avenues and ensure all possible grants and applications are applied for, to make the move into their new home as comfortable as possible.
Some grants and applications are successful meaning the client/family are able to buy household goods and furnishings, essential to make a house a home, however some are denied for a multiple of reasons, which means they can stay in refuges till the applications are reapplied for (could take months) or they move into their new properties with absolutely nothing, bare floors, bare walls, not even a bed.
We have witnessed on a number of occasions some of these people who have suffered so much, are sleeping on bare floorboards and I’ll add some are considered a HIGH RISK ( a high risk of serious injury or death). Can you imagine what this person is feeling, they have ran from abuse and violence, filled with worry and fear, they are alone and afraid of how they are going to rebuild their life, miles away from a place they thought was home, to be in a empty property with not even a pillow?
