Story
Anglesey Coastal Path Fundraising Challenge
As my fundraising challenge, I have decided to walk the Anglesey Coastal Path which, according to OS Maps, is 125 miles long. It won’t be walked on consecutive days, but I hope to complete the challenge before 4 May 2023, when I hand my chain of office to the new Chair. I also hope to have fine weather and see some fantastic views! I'll be taking photos along the way, so that you may see how I'm getting on.
I am fundraising for Flintshire Foodbank, Nanny Biscuit and The Fostering Network. I think that all three organisations do work of great value, but if you wish to support just one or two of them, please nominate your preferred organisation/s in the comments section when you make your donation. I will distribute the donation according to your wishes.
Flintshire Foodbank and Nanny Biscuit are both local to Flintshire, but The Fostering Network is a national charity, doing work which benefits children and young people throughout the UK. Hopefully, wherever you live, you will be able to choose a cause to support.
Further details of each of the organisations I am supporting this year are below and I hope you will support me in walking these 125 miles by sponsoring me. However much you choose to donate will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Cllr Mared Eastwood

Flintshire Foodbank thinks that no one in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them when in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust and work to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
They have recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary of supporting people in need in our community. Between April 2021 and March 2022, they helped 7,791 residents of which 3,412 were children. With the rising cost of living, this support is needed more than ever and I am proud to support them in the work that they do. Nanny Biscuit is an organisation with a long-term vision of re-generating local community resilience and creating social values which fit with today’s society as well as bringing back those old-fashioned values which develop community spirit. Their purpose is to reduce the strain on public sector organisations by increasing social awareness and community spirit, promoting and inspiring good mental and physical health, reducing loneliness and isolation and reducing our carbon footprint. Flintshire County Council enjoys a long-established relationship with The Fostering Network, which is the UK’s leading fostering charity - bringing together everyone who is involved in the lives of children and young people who are fostered, to make foster care the very best it can be. All Flintshire foster carers are offered membership to Fostering Network, which provides independent support, training and recognition to carers and families.
Flintshire County Council has worked in partnership with The Fostering Network and Welsh Government to bring the innovative Mockingbird scheme to North Wales in 2020. I am proud that Flintshire Fostering Service were the first Welsh Authority to introduce the Mockingbird family model, they have continued to grow and now have three active constellations with a fourth planned for 2023. 2 years agoTim joined me again for walk 5, when we headed from Aberffraw to Rhosneigr - racing against the bad weather that we knew was on its way. We had some lovely views of Llangwyfan Church and across the ocean. We nearly made it all the way without getting wet, but not quite - the rain caught up with us just before we reached Rhosneigr.

2 years agoFor walk 4, Tim joined me again and we headed from Llyn Rhos Ddu towards Llandwyn Island and through Newborough forest, ending at Malltraeth. I completed this section the following day, finishing at Aberffraw. I've got to recommend Aberffraw beach - absolutely stunning (or perhaps I was just really glad to see it as it meant I was nearing the end of my walk for that day).

2 years agoFor walk 3 Tim joined me and we walked from Moel-y-Don to Llyn Rhos Ddu and I was very glad to have him with me as not only did we have to go through fields with cattle in (I'm always very wary of cattle) but I did also need a helping hand to get me across the stepping stones (something I've wanted to do ever since I found out about them) and of course take the photo! The weather was lovely this day too and the scenery spectacular.

Flintshire
I have been a County Councillor in Flintshire since May 2017. This year (2022-23), I am honoured to be Chair of Flintshire County Council and have chosen to fundraise for Flintshire Foodbank, Nanny Biscuit and The Fostering Network because of the work they do here in Flintshire.
