Story
Whilst making progress through research, including at the MRC PPU, Dundee University, Parkinson's has not been cured.
We are therefore 'at it again': the "Shaky Team from Shaky Toun" , refreshed, invigorated and grown, will run the Glasgow 10K hoping to raise £2,500 for the Dundee Research Interest Group (DRIG) and Parkinson's UK. (PUK)
Local Research Interest groups are established by Parkinson's UK (PUK) and are made up of People with Parkinson's and since its inception I have been involved with DRIG. Research Interest Groups aim to raise awareness and understanding of research projects, encourage participation and help to shape research. The MRC PPU at Dundee University is a center of excellence in Parkinson's research and even small amounts of money raised will give us, People with Parkinson's, some direct influence and control.
Thanks to raising some £16,000 during 2018 which was split 50/50 between DRIG and PUK, DRIG is this year funding several student summer placements at Dundee University's PPU. This allows further innovative research by talented students with an interest in Parkinson's who might otherwise not be able to fund a summer research placement. Their research is supervised by Dr Esther Sammler, Dr Miratul Muqit and Professor Dario Alessi. We are very grateful for the fantastic support from Dario, Miratul and Esther and others in Dundee but also for the tremendous support from Parkinson's UK's Research Support Network and more locally to Chloe, Jan, Lorna and many others in Parkinson's UK.
Therefore would you, please support the 'shaky team' again?
100% of every pound will be spent on Parkinson's research: 50% will contribute to research projects funded by Parkinson's UK and 50% will be spent on research at the MRC PPU at Dundee University awarded by DRIG.
Please spread the word and if you can, come and see the Shaky Team cross the 10k finish line on 29th September.

5 years agoThe final days before the 10k. I am thrilled that the Shaky Team from Shaky Toun is now made up of 26 runners and running tops are ready. The wide range of supporters is very special and this has makes me forget Parkinson's. But suddenly, 'Parky' may stick its ugly head above the parapet and we still need much more research to take 'Parky' down. The many donations will contribute to this: A massive thanks and please keep donating. Come rain or shine i'm sure the Shaky Team will demonstrate what running 'in formation' can achieve. Marc
