Story

Mama Layla is a socially responsible private enterprise that was set up in 2020 with the aim of benefiting communities in Kenya while achieving a positive environmental impact through the production and distribution of high quality affordable solar lamps.

Mama Layla offers the potential to replace widely used dangerous and environmentally harmful kerosene lamps with locally assembled solar lamps which are safe, good for the environment and long-lasting.

We train and employ underprivileged women to assemble our lamps at a site outside Nairobi. We offer avenues for entrepreneurial young people to sell our solar lamps to make an honest living. We campaign and raise funds for schools and homes in villages with no access to grid power.

Our work is grounded in deep local knowledge and research. We assess where needs are greatest and scope our campaigns to achieve the greatest impact.

Our Intention:

Empower and support the marginalized women and communities in Kenya through skills training & employment, education and fostering entrepreneurship in the solar sector. Eliminate darkness in rural areas through sustainable lighting solutions.
