Story

The Mallaig Circular Walk, as the name suggests, follows a loop passing above the village then returning by road to the starting point. Along the way you can take in views of the Knoydart peninsula, the Isle of Skye and iconic views of two of the Small Isles: Eigg and Rum.

The route passes through a variety of natural habitats including native woodland, rush dominated grazings, heather moorland, and views out over the harbour and offshore waters.

Throughout the summer, a wide variety of wildflowers are present, including several species of orchids and an assortment of typical upland plants. Insects to be seen include up to ten species of butterflies, a few day flying moths and several dragonfly & damselfly species.

Many bird species, ranging in size from Buzzards to tiny Wrens, can be encountered throughout the walk while a variety of seabirds may be observed offshore from the final section of the route. This last section can also supply offshore sightings of seals and occasionally cetaceans such as Harbour Porpoise, Minke Whales and Common Dolphin.

Over time our beautiful path has been worn away in areas and is in need of care and maintenance to restore and make it more accessible to our local residents and visitors to the area. Any donation you can give gets us one step closer to our goal.

Many thanks for your support!

Thank you so much for supporting our community project. We have so far been able to upgrade part of the path, and have been awarded grants to undertake improvements to a further section this year (2024). We are very grateful for your support.
