Dear friends, family and friends of our friends😊. Let me just, firstly, say a Huge Thank You to our friend, Magda 🥰 for organising this fundraiser for our Leon.
Some of you may know us way too well already😅, but for some who are “meeting” us for the first time, we just want to tell you a little bit about ours, and our brave fighter’s story and update you on what’s been happening recently.
Leon is our absolute hero, our ray of sunshine and the biggest fighter you could think off. He had a very difficult start to his life and has been facing a lot of challenges almost every single day.
He was diagnosed with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn needing 100% oxygen, at 2 months diagnosed with profound bilateral hearing loss (bilateral auditory spectrum disorder) and he had his cochlear implants surgery done in January 2017. The MRI scan Leon had done before his implants surgery, showed some brain abnormalities.. It showed Leon has small frontal lobes and small anterior corpus collosum. Although we went through (and still are) a miriad of genetic tests, we were not given any diagnosis yet and are still uncertain of what the future holds for our Leon. We know he’s got global developmental delay, evolving motor disorder, complex epilepsy and he is dependent on us in all aspects of his daily life. He cannot walk, crawl, feed himself and he is not able to communicate meaningfully yet. He is able to sit down although he can still loose his balance quickly and he still has some jerky movements of his arms and legs as well as trouble with fine motor skills. I have to mention that despite all of his limitations he is extremely cheerful, happy and social toddler who enjoys exploring his new found world of hearing, loves playing with his toys, adores being around kids and has the most amazing and contagious laughter ever!
As we still not sure what is really happening medically, we are trying to do our best to help our baby boy. The first step is to get him on his feet so he could finally feel for himself the amazing world of walking and feel the freedom it brings. There is a long way ahead of us but we are definitely moving into the right direction 😊. Over a year ago we’ve decided to turn to private help and started taking Leon for two weeks physiotherapy camps at the special physiotherapy centre in Poland where he gets specific treatments tailored to meet his needs, and physiotherapy sessions every single day. He also went through a specialised chiropractic treatment and we also had a professional therapist who done NDT Bobath therapy with him too. The two weeks stay in a special physiotherapy centre in Poland is proving to benefit Leon the most so we’ve decided to do it as often as possible and have already managed four trips to that centre with Leon and booked another one in February. But we wouldn’t have done it without help from all of the kind hearted and generous people who has supported and continue to support our brave fighter. As a mum, I am Leon’s full time carer and had to make the decision to resign from my job thus, it gets sometimes really hard to keep up with all the costs of Leon’s ongoing treatment as one of those kind of physiotherapy trips costs around £2000. But it’s thanks to people like you that we are able to continue our journey and help Leon to progress in his development. It’s incredible to see the progress Leon has done since we started over a year ago... from not even being able to seat unaided to moving around more freely supporting himself with his arms and even trying to lift himself up on his knees! So to all of you who’ve helped so far, and to all of you who are still willing to help and support Leon in his ongoing treatment, a huge Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.
Any donations made towards making our little soldier’s life easier, any contribution will be much appreciated. No matter how small or how big, every little will help.
All we want is to give our baby boy a fair start in his life, and to see him stand on his own two feet would be a dream come true!!!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Monika, Jose and Leon

5 years agoAn uptade from Leon's mum: [17/05, 23:28] Monia ❤️: Just a year ago he couldn’t even make one step in that upsee!! He was not able to bear weight on his legs at all and stand! Therefore we were not able to use that until now! He can now push through his weight to a standing position and do few steps, although still supported and not in his own, he is getting stronger and stronger!! We bought that upsee from people’s donations too
