Story

Sponsored walk of 1,000km along the Ulster Way.

All funds will be split between Save our Sperrins and Love our Lough.

Save our Sperrins

SOS are a small community protecting the Sperrins Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the north of Ireland.

They are protecting wildlife against a Canadian goldmining company, called Dalradian Gold, who have applied for planning permission for a toxic goldmine and massive waste dump, 54 metres/17 storeys high very close to their village, schools, church, community hall & sports fields.

Goldmining is a dirty, toxic industry, well documented throughout the world for poisoning water, air, land and health. It produces sulphuric acid (acid mine drainage) and heavy metals like arsenic, mercury, cadmium, chromium, to name but a few, which cause respiratory diseases and numerous cancers.

Love our Lough

Ireland's largest body of water is poisoned by 30 years of poor governmental protection by Stormont and the land owner, the Earl of Shaftesbury.

Excessive and unregulated slurry and dumping, sand extraction, climate change, and zero investement back into the lough has resulted in green-blue algae growing a thick layer over the water, killing bird and marine life and making the water dangerous to drink or swim in. It is supposed to be the water supply for 40% of Northern Ireland.

On top of this

Recent research by the Natural History Museum and the RSPB showed that Northern Ireland Ranks 12th worst in the world when it comes to biodiversity loss, making it one of the most nature depleted places in the world.

Please help to protect what little we have left, and return depleted lands back to areas of abundant biodiversity.
