    Story

On the 16th April 2023 Darren will be running the Manchester Marathon. He is aiming to complete this in under 4 hours. This is the biggest challenge he has taken on so far so he has decided to help raise money to help support a family we know whom have very recently received devastating news about their beautiful little boy. Read their story below to understand why Darren has chosen to support this lovely family. We really appreciate any donation however big or small.

Wolfram Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder which is also known as DIDMOAD syndrome after its four most common features Diabetes Insipidus, Diabetes Mellitus, Optic Atrophy and Deafness. It can also cause Renal problems, Neurological problems. These can include loss of balance, sudden muscle jerks, loss of taste and smell, breathing problems and depression and Chronic fatigue. There isn’t a cure for Wolfram Syndrome but there are treatments for some of the features.

Having been diagnosed with Wolfram Syndrome in February 2023 at the age of 3, Rory and his family have an uphill battle ahead of them but intend to fight for him every step of the way. To help support him they are needing to raise money to enable them to take trips to America to meet with top doctors in the field, pay for treatments and trial costs and to also ensure the smallest costs are covered such as buying new lightbulbs for the house to improve Rory's vision, every penny raised really will go a long way.

Darren is aiming to raise £500 which will go will go directly to the family to add to what they have raised. This will go towards getting Rory to America to help him see specialists and will support his family as they go through such a challenging time.

Rory's Mum and Dad have relentlessly researched and are working on supporting their boy while trying to remain as ‘normal’ as they can for both Rory and his brother Reuben. They are also working hard to help awareness for rare diseases and really appreciate any help to do this.
