Story
Hi,
I am a hedgehog foster carer in York, started with little silver hedgehog about 7 years ago.
In recent years i have also helped Urchins rescue in York.
The situation with hedgehog rescue places in York is dire like everywhere in the country!
I have learnt a lot from Emma Farley at Silver hedgehog and attended one of Dr Toni Bunnell’s study sessions on hedgehog care.
I also completed the Vale course on first aid, care and rehabilitation of hedgehogs February 2020.
My husband and I have adapted part of the garage and have 9 cages for hoggies. Ideally I would love to have an incubator aswell as some of these hedgehogs require additional support and have a slim chance of survival without treatment in an incubator.
I have a microscope for poo sampling. Inject fluids and medications including antibiotics and all parasite meds. Heat mats and first aid.
The TLC-40 Eco Intensive Care Unit / Brooder / Recovery Unit acts as an incubator; providing a warm, sterile, controlled environment . During the summer months, a high volume of baby hoglets and sick hedgehogs most of which are unable to feed themselves or control their body temperature. hoglets are born with very little hair and a constant warm even temperature is vital, as deterioration can happen very quickly if they get cold. Their chance of survival is greatly improved by these incubators.
So, if you would like to help contribute towards an incubator to help sick and baby hedgehogs to survive and be released back into the wild, and can spare a penny or two, please donate. Any left over funds will be given to the two hedgehog rescues I work alongside.
Thankyou ❤️
I am a retired nurse so I enjoy helping other rescues and saving lives!
