We are trying to get a wet room and bedroom on the ground floor or a curved stair lift and wet room for upstairs for my husband john, in September 2015 john fell ill with a rare condition called cerrabellum ataxia which has changed his life completely from a fun loving, outgoing, kind gentle man who would help anyone who needed help a very hard working hgv driver, great father and son and wonderful wonderful loving now husband.
Sadly john has spent the last 18 months un able to walk, speak properly, see properly, feed him self alone , take a bath alone, everything we take for granted on a daily basis from waking up to going to sleep John needs help ! For along time john couldn't express him properly because his speech was all slurred, with help he can now express him self to a degree where we can understand him. He has terrible blurred vision in his right eye so focusing on things is very difficult, he struggles to pick objects up including his cutlery so feeding is also difficult, johns coordination isn't very good at all. I am johns full time career and struggle with everything John can't do, he desperately needs help with getting up the stairs and a wet room so he can shower safely as he has tried to drown himself once in the bath as he can't cope with his disabilities. Johns illness makes him feel very drunk every minute of his waking day. We never thought a virus to the brain could cause so much damage. We as a family try to deal with Johns disability as best we can but we need help to raise the funds to help John improve his quality of life which so desperately deserves and needs. It would appear that the social services and the teams that supported john in the beginning have given up helping him which is so very wrong and so very very sad for John. The stair lift will not only get john up the stairs safely but help me from hurting myself too as I'm behind John guiding him up the stairs so if john falls I go with him ! please help john have a happy life.
