Story
In the half a century since his conviction Michael Luvaglio has never stopped fighting for the right to have his case re-examined and the chance to prove his innocence.
Now, at almost 80 years of age, this is his final chance.
Michael was convicted alongside Dennis Stafford in 1967 of the murder of Angus Sibbet; a case which has gained notoriety as a potential miscarriage of justice.
There was no scientific evidence linking either man to the crime, no eye-witnesses, no weapon recovered and no motive put forward at trial.
The prosecution successfully persuaded the jury that the vehicle Luvaglio and Stafford were driving that night was involved with a collision with Sibbet’s vehicle.
It was this alone that convicted them.
Fresh evidence calling into question that collision and other areas of the case was submitted to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in 2013 in an effort to secure a referral to the Court of Appeal.
However, in June 2016 the CCRC ruled that it would not refer the case to the Appeal Court.
There are several areas in which it is felt that the CCRC have not acted fairly or properly in their investigation and, after much deliberation and consultation with his legal team, Michael has decided to challenge this decision at a Judicial Review.
In poor health and approaching his 80th year, realistically this is his last chance to obtain justice and clear his name. If successful, the CCRC will have to review Michael’s case from the beginning with a fresh team.
If he loses its likely he'll have large costs awarded against him.
He's in the process of selling personal items and family heirlooms to help meet this cost, but I've set this page up to help relieve him of some of this financial burden.
If, as we hope, the Judicial Review is successful all funds raised will be used to meet costs associated with the next stage of his legal fight.
Your pledge will help an innocent man in his final fight for justice.

My name is Neil Jackson and I have known Michael Luvaglio personally for around 6 years, although my research into his case has spanned almost a decade. I remain convinced of Michael's innocence and believe he should have the right to appeal his conviction before it's too late.
