Story
Why Donate?
Formula Student is an interuniversity competition, held annually, to design, build and race a single-seater racing car at Silverstone Race Track, typically the week after the British Grand Prix. According to competition rules, the entire design, manufacture and testing process must be completed in less than 12 months.
This year, Lancaster University’s team has found itself short of funding, and so to compete, we will need to find sponsors to supplement our internal budget.
We are a team of twelve 4th year (Masters Level) engineers, with a budget of just £12000 for the whole project. From this we have to purchase components, materials, services and all other goods needed to design, build and race the car.
Following a long-held Lancaster tradition of innovation and forward thinking, our car will be powered purely by electricity this year, in the form of 90 individual battery cells. A British team has never produced an electric car that has successfully completed the gruelling 22 lap endurance event.
We expect to be the first team to achieve this - a true underdog story that will upset some of the top British Teams, as well as threaten some of the best teams from around the world.
The competition includes teams from the UK, North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Many of these groups have 40+ team members, some have 100+, and almost all have budgets many times greater than ours.
Please donate and be part of our success story!
