Story
Winchmore Hill United Reformed Church is thrilled to announce that it soon will be able to offer marriage equally to all couples, gay or straight. Except for one minor impediment. The safe we have been using for years for all our wedding documentation is now inoperable. Before we are allowed to register any more marriages (of any type) we need a new safe. The cost will be about £600 plus £200 for fitting yet, because of the improvement works we are currently carrying out on our premises, we are rather strapped for cash, and we are getting a little impatient to get on with this!
If you would like to support the first mainstream denomination of a Christian Church in Enfield in being able to hold equal marriage, would you please consider giving to our crowdfunder? Any funds in excess of what is required for the safe would be usefully put to our improvement works, such as rebuilding our toilet block so that each cubicle is private and can be used by any gender, as well as green initiatives.

5 years agoThank you to all of you who have done so much to encourage us in our work - simply to say that love is love! We astonished to tell you - that due to the generosity of a former member - we can close the appeal and buy the safe - and nothing is going to stop us from telling the world that equal marriage has made it to Enfield. We are feeling the love, but our hearts are breaking for our friend Madhi - please read his story, sign and share, we had no idea that this was going to happen when we launched our appeal... http://chng.it/gC6TC95c

5 years agoHuge thanks to everyone who has supported us so far. Yet devastation knocked on our door this morning. Our friend, Madhi who is living with his partner, Ian, had his door broken through this morning at 6.30am and was forcibly removed to Colnbrook Detention Centre to be deported on the 28th January. Madhi is extremely vulnerable - gay, Christian and with PTSD. His life is at risk. We must raise the profile of his case: http://chng.it/7VnpSvwg Please sign and share. Thank you

5 years agoIt's been lovely to receive so much encouragement for this. Thank you to all of you who are supporting us on this journey. Great story I saw today (from 2017), which inspired me. Religious bodies have a lot to learn and much to repent: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/07/11/britains-firstmuslim-gay-wedding-man-tried-kill-sexuality-ties/
