Story

#love4littleliam

This is Liam, he is just 5 years old and at the start of May 2018 we had the devastating news that he has an incurable and inoperable brain tumour giving Liam up to a year to live. This cancerous brain tumour is called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma(DIPG). Just one child a year would develop this terrible disease at the Queens Medical Centre Nottingham. There is currently no cure. DIPG grows in the area of the brain that controls sleep, respiration, swallowing, bladder control, hearing, taste, eye movement, facial expressions, facial sensation, and posture. Growing in this area makes surgery to remove the cancerous tumour impossible. However tests and trials are being carried out in a handful of places around the world to work towards a cure, or extend the length of the prognosis past a year. This cancer usually only affects children under the age of 10.

**only 20-30 children develop DIPG in the UK per year**

Liam is the most caring and loveable little boy you could ever meet. He is very intelligent for his age and amazes us everyday. He loves anything car related, Big Ben, The solar system, dancing, The Minions and of course Nottingham Forest FC! He is the best big brother to Evie and thinks the world of her. You only have to meet him once and you will be best friends for life. You will never meet a happier little boy, who will do anything for anyone just to make them smile. We have got to keep fighting for our gorgeous boy and we need all the help we can get. Our family is doing everything possible, amid the whirlwind of disbelief we find ourselves in, to find alternative therapies and options that may work either outside or alongside the NHS. It's our only hope of helping Liam and if we have hope, we can keep going.

We have set up this Just Giving page to help Liam, his little sister Evie (3) and his family raise as much needed funds as possible for specialised trials and treatment across the globe to remain within hope that something can be done. After plenty of research we have seen that most of these treatments cost up to £35,000 a time. Fundraising is the only chance and we have to try to make this happen.

Currently the only treatment is radiotherapy within the NHS in the United Kingdom, this only shrinks the size of the tumour before it comes back again, only with radiotherapy will Liam live for up to a year.

We have seen so many stories of families travelling to Mexico, USA, Germany and others for treatment, and with your generous donations we aim to do just that! These are some of the treatments we have found;

- A possible treatment called GD2 CAR-T to be used by Stanford University School of Medicine.

- IOZK clinic in cologne Germany.

As a family there is not a lot anyone can do to make this situation any better. What we want to do is try to ease the financial worries where possible. We would like to use some money to allow Liam and his family to make special memories together by giving them a special family holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We appreciate everything you are doing to help us achieve our goals. If anyone can do any fundraising or has any suggestions please let us know.
