Story

Hello! So this is Arlo, one cheeky chappy who loves tigers, anything with music behind it and has a smile that makes you want to smile right back at him.

Arlo was born on the 15th October 2018. He was born healthy and the happiest baby, so chilled, loved attention and his food. He aced every milestones with ease.

So now for the sad bit...

On the 31st October 2019 (how fitting it really was a night of horror) only 2 weeks after his 1st birthday Arlo went into respiratory and cardiac arrest. Arlo had a viral infection which attacked his lungs. Tracey and Garry were told to say goodbye to Arlo but after some time being Oxygen deprived Arlos heart started to beat independently. Arlo was then blue lighted to the Sick kids in Edinburgh where he spent 2 weeks on a ventilator. That night was a game changer, due to the length of time Arlo was deprived of Oxygen Arlo suffered a severe brain injury (something called HIE). Which as a result has meant Arlo has been left visually impaired, lost his swallow and is fed through a gastric tube directly to his tummy and has lost the ability to do basic functions. It really is unreal that a common viral infection has had such a detrimental effect on Arlo.

Arlo then spent a further 4 months in the sick kids and was discharged just before the first lockdown. Since Arlo has been home he has made great progress. Initially he cried for months due to the irritability of his brain. He left the sick kids with over 10 medications but since he returned home he has required less and less of thiese medications with the hope of reducing them further. Arlo has a team of 12 NHS professionals (he’s in demand, appointment daft) ranging from Physio to dietitians. The NHS have been instrumental in the care provided to Arlo however services are very limited especially after CoVid.

Arlo has so much potential. Before his brain injury Arlo was so very determined and Tracey and Garry still see this in Arlo. Any donations would be used to allow Arlo oxygen therapy, private physio, switch toys and equipment. Although Arlo has a brain injury, the brain can re-route itself (Neuro plasticity) and re-wire. Which with the help of any donations we believe these therapies and equipment will honestly change Arlos life and truly allow him to flourish.
