Story

I am the voluntary caretaker for a set of medieval steps in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, called Long Stairs. I have been maintaining Long Stairs for 6 years now, since 2018, and myself and my volunteers from our group Notts History - Honour Our Heritage have raised funds for a blue plaque and street sign, which are both in situ for the public to come and see. Unfortunately, because the steps are not currently safe enough for visitors, they are gated away, and the public are not able to come and have a walk on our beautiful Long Stairs. In 2019 I started the Long Stairs Restoration Project - our aim is to restore the steps and the flat recess, raise the low wall at the side of the steps to make it safer, and to open up and use the cave on Long Stairs that has been bricked up since the 1870's. The total cost of this project will be £36,000. I am currently working hard to raise the money myself, and have raised £4000 so far, but we still have a long way to go. Any donations that can come of having this Just Giving page will be a massive help to us, and will enable us to save part of Nottingham's heritage, by restoring Long Stairs, and opening them up to the public, so people can come and feel the history of this long forgotten walkway. Please can you help?
