Story
Locksbottom Cricket Club (near Orpington, Kent) are planning the biggest project the club has embarked on with a total project cost estimated at £76,000. The plan is to reconstruct the square and renovate the outfield of the cricket pitch at Tugmutton Common. The aim is to make a huge improvement to the communities facilities as the current cricket pitch is in need of a major overhaul. Increased participation, safety and the love of cricket in the community are all at the heart of driving the change.
The club is embarking on its 72nd season (2019) and is going from strength to strength. It has 2 senior teams in the Kent County Village League, Under 15s, Under 13s and friendly sides that play a multitude of games throughout the season.
The reconstruction of the square (wicket) and renovation of the outfield will make an invaluable difference for generations to come. The expected first class outcome will raise the quality of experience from the first time try-out to the veteran village cricket campaigner. The capacity of the playing area will rise dramatically providing a suitable space for softball games as well as for use by local schools and district cricket. Younger junior cricket will be able to utilise the outfield, which can be used for schools festivals as well as Locksbottom CC coaching and training. A hard ball sport on a notoriously bumpy pitch is not great for mitigating safety concerns.
This is the biggest project the club has set out on, but cricket is at the forefront of our world, and improving the facilities seems the most sensible way of serving the local area. The committee is proud of the contributions the club has made to Tugmutton Common over the years; the environment is vastly improved on from 15 years ago, and it is likely this is the biggest factor in reducing antisocial behaviour and raising enjoyment of the space .
All funding raised will go towards the project.
