Story

Hi i'm Becky Gough and I’m currently waiting for a liver transplant and would like to raise awareness for people who are suffering on a daily basis with liver disease and therefore I have set this fundraising page and would like to raise money for St James, Leeds Liver Transplant team which is aimed at improving care for patients and nurse education and also provides support for patients and their relatives or carers (number 5U30).

The transplant team is multi-disciplinary, and includes hepatologists, transplant surgeons and anaesthetists as well as other professionals such as the ward nursing team, liver transplant co-ordinators, dietitians, pharmacists, specialist nurses also physiotherapists, social worker and many others, including their administrative teams. As a teaching hospital and specialised unit they have an important role in teaching medical students, and training doctors at all stages in specialist aspects of liver transplant medicine and surgery.

The other Half the money will go towards the ward J83 Liver Unit in Bexley Wing St James for patients care.

The liver is the largest solid organ in the body. It detoxifies, protects and provides nutrients for all cells in the body, and performs a around 500 functions to keep the body healthy.

When the liver is diseased and unable to function patients can become extremely unwell.
