I've raised £1000 to help me to fulfil my ambition to choreograph a professional dance piece.

My name is Lisa Simpson; I am a choreographer and a workshop leader with quadriplegia cerebral palsy and no verbal communication. I choreograph using the Simpson Board; an inexpensive but priceless choreography tool, which enables disabled people especially those with limited or no verbal communication to create their own work. I am also a director of Lisa Simpson Inclusive Dance which is a social enterprise and a company limited by guarantee. I set up LSID in March 2010 to create opportunities for disabled people, especially those with limited or no verbal communication to realise their full potential.
As I am an artist with a disability most people expect me to create pieces that are related to disability issues. However this could not be further from the truth. Most of my work stems from the love of visual art work and the way I see choreography is designing with bodies.
I have been extremely lucky to get a space at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster for a week in August to develop ideas for my new piece which will be created next Easter. With the total money raised I will use it for the week at the Dukes to work with a cast of dancers and my translator.
To be able to achieve the total would mean so much to me as this is just the start of reaching my goal of raising my profile as a professional choreographer who creates work with professional dancers. As up to now I have been creating pieces on a community level, although I have been commissioned to create pieces in the past.
