20 years ago our family experienced a great loss as our oldest brother Pritesh suffered a brain aneurysm, which eventually led to the loss of his life.

The loss and sadness created from his sudden passing still lives with us today. 20 years on he still remains the fittest amongst us. This year would have been his 40th birthday and to honour him 3 of us (Nikul, Nilesh & Tanita) have chosen to take part in a sprint triathlon on the 6th of August.

The sprint triathlon involves a 750m swim, 20km cycle followed by a 5km run! We imagine he is looking down on us laughing at the idea of us 3 couch potatoes doing such a task. Nonetheless we know he will be supporting us!

A brain aneurysm occurs every 18 minutes! The rupture of a brain aneurysm can lead to a subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), which has a high mortality rate. According to estimates, about 40% of people who experience a ruptured brain aneurysm die within the first 24 hours. About 25% die within the first six months, and 15% to 30% die within the first year (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2802405/).

With the significant fatal brain aneurysms, there are many loved ones left behind. We are very grateful to everyone who supported us then and continue to do so now, but many people don't have that kind of support and so it is important for all 3 of us that we also raise donations for a bereavement support organisation.

We will be raising money for these two great charities below to contribute to the ongoing research to best support brain aneurysm sufferers and its impact on the loved ones left behind.
