Story

The people of Ordsall love Lighting the Legend, their own annual lantern parade and firework show, free to the whole community. Every year all the kids and lots of adults help to make the lanterns which we carry through the streets until we get to Ordsall Park for the fireworks. As its been going nearly 25 years (next year!) it has now become a real legacy for the community, who come out en masse or take to the streets to take part in the parade. Its the biggest night of the year in Ordsall, and it gives people a sense of belonging and brings people together. Families feel proud of the children and school groups who've made lanterns, and also take part in the drumming and other performances. Many local people feels its unfair that Ordsall sometimes gets a bad press, but being there on the night of Lighting the Legend makes you realise how strong and resilient the community actually is. The event doesn't cost a lot of money but it is getting very difficult to raise funding for it, and so we are asking local businesses and the wider community to help. We do a lot of local fundraising ourselves but we would like your help, thank you.
