Story
This page has been started to raise money to purchase 'Lifeboatman' Oor Wullie for Broughty Ferry Lifeboat at Auction on 13th September 2016. All monies raised to pay for Oor Wullie will go to the Archie foundation. Any surplus will be split evenly between the Archie foundation and R.N.L.I.
To explain, the ‘Oor Wullie’ located on the old pilot pier in Broughty Ferry is kindly sponsored by ‘The Broughty Ferry Traders Association’, and decorated as an R.N.L.I lifeboat man, complete with ‘R.I.P MONA’ etched into the bucket, paying tribute to the brave souls who lost their life’s at sea on the Broughty Ferry lifeboat R.N.L.B Mona, during a callout on the 8th December 1959.
The now 30-strong crew of Broughty Ferry lifeboat have taken their task of looking after ‘Their Lifeboatman Wullie’, rumoured to be called ‘Stormy Stan-Wullie’, extremely seriously. Over the past number of months and weeks, each of the crew have taken a turn to ensure Wullie is fed three times a day, hydrated 8 times a day (with the odd Irn-Bru on a Saturday night), had his teeth brushed morning and night, his hair groomed, plus the odd change of wellie boots!
The Broughty Ferry Lifeboat crew have been extremely excited for the upcoming auction for their chance to bid and purchase ‘Stormy Stan-Wullie’ in order to keep him within the community he has become so comfortably welcomed.
Easy? One would think so. However, the community of Arbroath have developed green eyes and want him for themselves, posing a strong threat to take OOR Oor Wullie!! This would throw a devastating blow to not only the community of Broughty Ferry, but also the Broughty Ferry lifeboat station.
To keep 'Lifeboatman' Wullie in 'The Ferry' please donate, the money goes primarily to The Archie foundation which do a brilliant job in transforming the childrens hospital at Ninewells. Any surplus money raised over the auction bid will be split evenly between The Archie Foundation, and the R.N.L.I.
