Story

The riots in Walton on the evening of 3rd August 2024 were devastating to the community as local businesses and public services were set on fire. As a primary educator and school librarian, I understand the life-long positive impact that Reading for Pleasure can have on children's future outcomes. Spellow Hub was vital in the regeneration of Walton and offered children access to a wide range of children's books and activities. Libraries are a vital service for children without access to books at home during the summer holidays so I am fundraising to help Spellow Hub in whatever way I can. I will be swimming 5 miles (8000m) in 30 days.

A quick update: Hello, sorry I haven't given an update in a while. I've been waiting for Spellow Support to get back to me in regards to where I can send the money. I recently received an email stating that they can no longer accept cash donations as they've already received so much support from other fundraisers. For this reason, I have decided the share the money out between reading and youth charities that work in disadvantaged areas. Coram Beanstalk, National Literacy Trust, Kind and Walton Youth. Thanks again for your support!

Another two swimss completed this week! 4900m/8000m. I am still waiting for Spellow Library to contact me regarding part of the donation. As this fundraiser was also for the community I have decided some money will also go towards a GoFundMe set up by a shop owner who's shop was destroyed in the riots, Asylum Link and the L6 Community Centre.
