Story
Inspired & moved by Captain Tom, wanting to pay homage to his amazing feat not forgetting to wish him a Happy 100th birthday. We decided to do something special.
The task is 24 hours a day on the treadmill for 7 days continuously by way of relay by firefighters from the borough of Hounslow. Starting at 20:00 hours on Captain Tom’s birthday, running through to the following Thursday at 20:00 hours. Firefighters from Feltham, Heston & Chiswick fire stations will be keeping the treadmill rolling by walking jogging or running, in fire gear, specialist kit and some for hours at a time. Symbolising we are here for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year, as are all emergency services .
We are raising money for both The firefighters charity & the NHS charities together in a 50:50 split .
Firefighters Charity is dear to the hearts of all firefighters and their families up & down the country for the amazing work they do. Usually we raise money via car washes & charity events but with most of these being cancelled due to Covid19 & social distancing we wanted to do our bit, as they are a vital part of getting firefigthers & their families back to fitness following physical & mental injuries. This is especially important as firefighters have stepped up nationally to help in a variety of extra roles including supporting the ambulance, delivering food & prescriptions to the vulnerable, PMART, making faceshields & more. The services provided by the firefighter charity is completely free of charge & is an invaluable support to the whole fire brigade family. They are instrumental in getting firefighters back to work & families back together. www.firefighterscharity.org.uk
We also wanted to support or NHS colleagues by raising funds for NHS charities, as they are very close to our hearts #247oneteam www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk
