Story
Part 1: TWO FREE BOOK LIBRARIES LEWISHAM
Part 2: TWO COMMUNITY PIANOS LEWISHAM
My fundraiser is to help cover all the expenses I have so far incurred, which are as follows:
Pt1: In the Spring of 2023 on my own initiative, I created at Lewisham Station two free book libraries and a free book library in Lewisham Community Space (Shopping Centre South Mall),
Before having the network of volunteers with transport, I incurred expenses of £100 to facilitate an initial supply of seventy five boxes of donated books, then £100 to collect a single donation of over three thousand books.
£175 for the purchase of two bookcases incuding transport.
I also needed to purchase stamps and ink bottles which are essential to prevent donated books being taken for resale.
In addition I also incurred expenses on the purchase of brackets so help make the bookcases (seven in total) secure and durable posters.
Pt2: To replace the life expired badly damaged existing piano at Lewisham Station I incurred transport expenses of £250 this included delivery of the 'new' piano and disposal of the existing piano.
In addition I paid £120 to have the 'new' piano professionally re-tuned. This took ninety minutes.
The other piano recently donated to Lewisham Community Space, will cost me £70 for a re-tune.
Since setting up the Free book libraries both have been received most favourably and the positive feedback and donations of books (mainly by appeals) has been off the scale.
Securing the replacement piano for Lewisham Station and Lewisham Community Space I consider will be of much benefit to the community.
I give up a lot of my time willingly to curate the libraries and sorting pianos, so I hope my unavoidable expenses all for community benefit can be met by this appeal.
THANK YOU.

My thanks to Amber Ahmad from ITV London News for filming this feature about how I was motivated to create the free book libraries in Lewisham. Delighted that Lewisham Station Assistant Madju Kinona was interviewed.

10 months agoBIG THANK YOU! To everyone that has donated so far and for all the lovely messages of support. When I created the appeal to help me set a target I made a ‘shopping list’ of all the expenses I had incurred. Then after launching the appeal it then dawned on me (doh!) that I had overlooked the purchase of two bookcases (£45 & £30) and £100 on transport. So my new target is now £900.

1 year agoThank you to everyone that has so far made a donation, thirty at a most generous average of £15.75! If you have any ‘like minded’ friends please share my crowdfunder. My appeal has made the news! Delighted that ‘City Boy’ by Herman Wouke a tatty falling apart paperback and how this lit the blue touch paper to create five free book libraries and acquire two community pianos is featured via London News. Correction: I set up two free libraries at three locations in Lewisham & recently took over the free library at The Royal George in Deptford.
