Story

With Dorking Wanderers creating friendships globally, this gives the club the opportunity to bring together humanity through sport. Using our newly found affiliation with Serbian counterparts, FK Voždovac, we are hosting a quiz night on Zoom to raise money for Zajedno za život, a Serbian charity for disadvantaged children.

Zajedno za život was founded by Jovan Simić, current head of media at FK Voždovac, back in 2017. Jovan was motivated to launch his charity when he saw a post online about a young girl from his neighbourhood, Nadja, suffering from acute myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Nadja needed €300,000 to afford the chemotherapy in Germany. Jovan took it upon himself to hold an auction selling his vast collection of football jerseys to help raise money for Nadja's treatment. Jovan held two auctions, which to this day are the biggest charity auctions held by an individual in Serbia, raising an impressive €80,000, but thanks to peoples' continued donations, he managed to raise the remaining €220,000 in just five days. Six years on, Nadja is living a normal life of a teenage girl in high school, cancer free!

Since the fundraiser for Nadja, Jovan and the charity have raised over €1 million helping over 70 children and their families, providing treatment and travel. They have also raised enough money to rebuild a children's hospital as well as rebuilding and upgrading a school for children with disabilities.
