Story
Leila was born on 13/05/2017 weighing 4lb 15oz, her mothers pregnancy and labour was absolutely perfect. Leila was born at 38+1 weeks after being induced due to being small in size.
At 16 hours old Leila was moved into the Neonatal Unit as she had low blood sugars, this was corrected by being fitted with an ng tube.
At 3 days old Leila was moved into the intensive care unit due to jerking movements that needed to be monitored in case this was convulsions. Due to these movements she had an ultrasound of the head, which confirmed she had a bleed on the brain which was weeks old so starting during the womb. An MRI scan was done at 9 days old, this scan confirmed that Leila's brain hasn't formed properly and the bits that had was very immature for her age. Since then she has been subjected to many tests and scans, due to her age it's difficult to get a diagnosis and her family are still waiting for answers.
Leila has been nil by mouth since she was 2 weeks old as she doesn't have the coordination to swallow her milk so will in future be fitted with a direct feeding line to her stomach.
Leila has an auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder.
She see's many specialists including care nurses, consultants, physiotherapy, speech and language therapist, hearing specialists, development doctors, brain specialists and genetics.
Leila is currently waiting for surgery to fix 2 groin hernias and an umbilical hernia.
Leila also has a shadow on the left kidney which requires more investigation.
We are raising money to build her a sensory room which will help greatly with her brain stimulation with both lights and trying to stimulate her ears the best we can. This is in the hope of giving her the best possible start in life and helping her to develop the best we can
Leila's great uncle (Colin) and friend Jamie both did a sponsored bungee jump which was 180ft high on November 18th.
Leila and her family thank you massively for all your contributions!!
