Story
Our family and friends team of six enthusiastic open water swimmers is doing a relay swim of the length of the famous Loch Ness in early July 2024.
Please help us to raise funds for the following two very worthy causes, Mikeysline and River Action. The entire final amount raised will be divided equally and donated directly to both.
Mikeysline - "it's ok not to be ok" Mikeysline is a mental health charity based in Inverness (near Loch Ness), and is doing invaluable work helping and supporting those in the Highlands area who may be struggling or feeling alone or overwhelmed.
River Action - "we're on a mission to rescue Britain's rivers" River Action is doing tremendous work campaigning to rescue the country's rivers from a cocktail of agricultural, sewage and industrial pollution.
There is increasing scientific research evidence of the wellbeing benefits of open water swimming. Despite the sadly regular news of effluent discharge into sea and rivers, there remain plenty of open water swimming venues available.
Our relay swim wouldn't be possible without invaluable local logistical support. Many thanks to Beastie Boats, based in Foyers on Loch Ness, for putting together a one-off boat hire package to support us in our project.
The length of Loch Ness, from Fort Augustus to Lochend (see inset map below), is almost exactly 36 km, and the six of us will be taking turns swimming sections of 3 km, adding up to 6 km each in total. We look forward to the challenge, doing it together, and the sheer beauty and majesty of the Loch Ness setting.
Our design department produced a brilliant logo for the team swimming cap (and the Fort Augustus cover photo)!
