Story
Last year, 10 fans of Chelmsford City had planned to hike from Lands End to Oxford, starting 29th March to try to arrive in time for the Oxford City v Chelmsford City fixture on 4th April. A few weeks before we were due to set off, it became clear this would no longer be possible.
We are now hoping to tweak the walk slightly, and end up in Winchester for May 29th, setting off on 22nd. Since there is no longer any football to walk to we had our choice of finishing locations, and decided where better than the picturesque city of Winchester.
It’ll be around 40 miles a day, sometimes longer and will be done in relay. We are pleased to be raising vital funds for our own Supporters Club who have a Community Project ongoing involving local schools and groups. We are also pleased to be supporting Chelmsford Mencap again, a cause close to our hearts and a hugely well-deserving charity. Given the situation and the location of our walk, we also feel it appropriate to make a donation to the South Western Ambulance Charity, to acknowledge the fine work carried out by all at the NHS.
From all the group, we thank you for any pledge you make – it will really spur us on during those long days on the road and mud!

4 years agoOK, hopefully the final update regarding the specifics of the walk! Due to hotels not being open at the start of the most recent proposed week we have pushed the walk back a week. The Conference South football season has also been abandoned so there is no football to walk to, however we have decided to go ahead and walk to Winchester instead. Rest assured we will be doing everything to comply with the Covid restrictions in place at that time, and hope everything can finally go ahead!

4 years agoWe are now hoping to tweak the walk slightly, and end up in Hungerford for the currently planned game there on May 22nd, setting off on 15th, however this is all still subject to restrictions in place at the time. We will try and keep the page updated for any changes to this plan.

5 years agoSadly, but as expected, we have had to postpone this walk. We are all keen for this to still go ahead once the Coronavirus situation is clearer, however I hope until then you can bear with us. If you have any concerns or questions please get in touch.

Thanks to Rob Luton, John Butcher and friends, family and work clients, plus I threw in an Ayrton as I ended up taking home the surplus food and condiments.
