The Lee Valley Vampires started out as a pipe dream of a couple of our members in 2023. They wanted more ice time and opportunities for competitive ice hockey for women and those most aligned with women’s spaces in London and surrounding areas, particularly North London.

They started to organise sessions on Wednesday evenings at Lee Valley Ice Centre, open to those registered with other teams, and fully funded by the players. Ice costs would be split evenly and they would be practice sessions or scrimmages. As the sessions became more popular, and most importantly, they found a coach that was dedicated to the cause, the Lee Valley Vampires team was formed.

We have registered ourselves in the league and will be joining the WNIHL2S division for the 2024-2025 season. As we are a new team, we need some help getting to a financially stable position and not rely solely on our players, making our sessions more affordable overall.

We are challenging ourselves to complete 1,998 kilometers in the month of August to raise money for our club. We aim to raise £2,000 pounds to donate to the club funds.

Why 1,998? In the spirit of the Olympics, we chose 1998 as it was the year women's ice hockey made its debut in the Winter Olympics in Nagano, 74 years after men's ice hockey made its debut.

We will be tracking our progress using a Group Challenege on Strava that one of our players has organized and will be posting regular updates on our Instagram, @leevalleyvampires.

Please note: all proceeds donated to this fundraiser will be donated to the club's bank account and will go directly into making the Lee Valley Vampires the team we believe it can be. Lee Valley Vampires is a not for profit sports club.
