Story
Hi Everyone, I have been lucky enough to be selected for the World Scout Jamboree 2023 in South Korea and I have attached a link to the Scout website with some further information.
https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-your-section/international-scouts-and-events/international-events/wsj/
I am excited to attend the World Scout Jamboree because it will be a great opportunity to meet Scouts from all over world and to learn all about South Korea and their culture.
I was successful in gaining a place to attend the European Scout Jamboree in 2020 but sadly the trip was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic so I was happy to find out that I was eligible to apply for the World Scout Jamboree, to achieve the same if not even greater experience in South Korea. I have attended a Swedish exchange camp three years ago in Scotland where Swedish Scouts joined our group of Scouts/Guides for 1 week. During this time I learnt many things from the Exchange Scouts which really interested me and one thing in particular that stood out was that their scouting rules are different to ours, including health and safety. I was able to bring some ideas from this back to Kirriemuir Scouts and this experience has also led me to want to find out so much more about worldwide scouting and I feel this trip will give me a chance to do this.
I think that this trip would benefit me as I am always keen to learn new things and further develop the skills I have already gained during my time as a Beaver, Cub, Scout and now Explorer Scout in Kirriemuir. It would give me the opportunity to share what I have learnt as a Scottish Explorer with all the other Scouts that I meet in South Korea but one of the main benefits would be to bring back the knowledge and skills I learn in South Korea to benefit scouting in Kirriemuir and across Angus. My Mum has been a leader at Kirriemuir Scouts for many years and I would like to follow in her footsteps and give something back to the Community. By sharing the new knowledge and skills, this will hopefully encourage other young people into scouting and those already in scouting to apply for these trips in the future.
To be able to attend the World Scout Jamboree I will have to fundraise £3765. It is a large amount of money but I am organising several fundraising events throughout this year. My first event will be my 2 Uncles getting waxed on Sunday 3rd April.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and for supporting me.
