On Thursday 15th of June, my dad(Craig Kerr/ Kermit) left the house to head to work, well, fit and healthy, as always! He attended the gym early that morning and after his daily session contacted my mum to say he was feeling unwell, within an hour of this phone call he was in the back of an ambulance heading to hospital taking what they thought was multiple seizures and when he arrived his blood tests were coming back and they weren't great. The staff at St. John's Hospital then told my mum that he had took a turn for the worse and he had been admitted into intensive care, still unaware of how severe his condition actually was. They suspected a clot on the lungs or a torn artery in his heart, they did not have the equipment to check this so he was then blue lighted up to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and within half an hour was on life support fighting for his life! We were told to prepare for the worse as he was going to need emergency open heart surgery & not many people survive this operation. After a long 7 hours, we then discovered he had a torn artery and a shredded valve in his heart. My dad is a fighter and has made it through, he is making slow progress and has now been fitted with a pace maker. He is still being cared for by the nurses at the infirmary but he is getting there and is expected to make a full recovery.
So this is the reason we are asking as many people to donate if they can, and if you are unable to donate could you please share this as far and wide as possible, so we can raise funds for Intensive Care Unit & Cardiology Ward at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, we would just like to be able to give something back for all they have done for us and our family!!!
We would also like to be able to donate a tv for the waiting room at the intensive care unit at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
UPDATE: on the 25th of June he was signed out of the hospital to come home!!!!
