Why do we need #laptoplibrary?
At any time, families without the technology to access school and work from home are at a disadvantage. This disadvantage is magnified greatly during a pandemic when we all need technology to receive education, work from home, and even keep in touch with friends and loved ones.
How can you help?
You may have used laptops at home that you no longer use. Please consider donating them! You can email laptoplibrarysevenoaks@gmail.com to see if what you have is suitable! You may even be able to enquire at work if the IT department have units suitable for donating? Again, drop us an email.
You can donate money. We desperately need funds to repair some of the machines we are kindly being given. Often it is a case of a cheap part, costing pence, that can get a laptop up and running. Sometimes they are missing cables, or a mouse. Sometimes they need a new hard drive. We are even daring to dream that we might be in a position to buy some decent, robust, and well priced new laptops that will go on to help many families through our library scheme.
How do we operate?
We are building a bank of laptops, that are constantly out on loan to families in need. Run entirely by volunteers, the donated laptops are securely wiped using professional technology. When a family is finished using them, it comes back in to be wiped again and go back out to another family, all at no cost to the family.
We have already helped several families, from A-level students, to teachers, to primary school age children. The need is there for more though; many, many more. We don't want to let anyone down who needs us.
Please help if you can!
