Story
With the unprecedented shutting down of many businesses and the halting of everyday activities due to the coronavirus situation, the Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy’s community venue and live performance spaces (Kings Live Lounge) has been forced to close for the foreseeable future.
While we are just one of many businesses and organisations to face difficulties during this period, many of our customers and supporters of the project have expressed a desire to offer financial support to help fund project to survive during this difficult period.
This closure has already forced the charity to cancel more than 24 live events until June 1st at the moment. It also includes more than 10 community use classes such as Yoga, Children‘s Drama Workshops, Tai Chi, Children’s Craft Events, Burlesque and more. The Kings Live Lounge will have no income for the foreseeable future. With ongoing overheads and two contracted employees, our financial future is extremely uncertain and the charity may have to let its employees go as early as May.
The whole project, which has been over 4 years in the making, was set to help transform Kirkcaldy’s town centre for years to come. That is now under threat. The communities the project had already touched, including hosting events for the homeless and groups with disabilities, was really starting to get momentum. Its community space and classes were all well attended and included something for everyone regardless of age. The live events from music, comedy, cabarets and more were setting the tone of things to come. The charity was on its way to develop The former YWCA site on the Esplanade and the Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy (Former ABC Cinema), Scotlands oldest and largest Kings Theatre. That could all now be lost.
We totally understand that this is an uncertain time for everyone and we are all unclear on how long our lives will be altered by this current crisis.
But if you would like to help us to keep the project alive, then we welcome any donation you can afford. Every single penny can help us survive and we will be so very very grateful and extremely thankful for your support.
