8 of the bravest members of staff from Kings Cross Academy (plus one sibling) have decided to take part in a 13,000ft sky dive all in the name of charity! Those taking the plunge are Luke Gilbert, Sean Gilbert, Kay Baxter, Angela Scheffer, Sarah Plumb, Alison Plumb (the one sibling), Shay Ali, Faye Maleady and Tarjarna Downie.

But what is the cause?

Last year Kings Cross Academy was kindly donated a defibrillator, a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

One defibrillator costs £1,000 and we are very grateful for the donation. The defibrillator was donated to Kings Cross Academy by Rosh Keegan, the mother of a teenager who died from a sudden cardiac arrest. She has campaigned for the introduction of life-saving heart equipment in schools and so far has raised £12,000 for the charity ‘Hand on Heart’. This has supplied seven schools in Camden with a defibrillator, along with training the staff and children on how to use them.

Ms Keegan said: “We need to make sure every school we know gets a defibrillator – it’s like having an ambulance at the end of your road." We feel very fortunate to have received the donation of a defibrillator at Kings Cross Academy and now aim to raise enough money to donate defibrillators to other local schools.
